Mary-JaneWhy do I still make Saratoga Suds in the good ol'-fashioned way? I make my soaps in the authentic, time honored traditional manner because I like the challenge and skill it takes to work with saponification, the chemical process required to really MAKE soap. It's tricky, messy, and labor intensive; and it's not easy, but it's so rewarding! Making soap from scratch is the only honest way to produce real honest-to-goodness homemade soap. Anything else is a sham; it would cheat you and me!

If it's hard to make soap from scratch, why are there so many crafters selling soap today? Because in the mid-1990's commercial companies began marketing soap kits: blocks of chemically altered soap base to melt in a microwave, a process easy enough for a child to do. Many of the 'melt and pour' kits are translucent, but soap kits for melting or re-batching, can be opaque as well. These kits try to mimic real homemade soap, but in fact, the soap base is a chemical-laced, glycerin-depleted, mass produced concoction, only an imitation of the authentic product. 'Hand Made', 'Hand Crafted', 'Re-Milled', and 'Glycerin' soaps are some of the names used for these imitation homemade soaps. Kind of like calling a frozen pizza homemade 'cause you added a little cheese and heated it in your oven! If you're going to spend the money to buy a special soap, make sure you're getting something that is more than just a shortcut, or a fancy 'wanna be.'

My Promise: Saratoga Suds will always be made from scratch in the good ol' fashioned way. I will never ask you to bathe with a product I wouldn't use myself. I have the utmost respect for the history and heritage of soap making and I will continue to perpetuate that integrity. As probably the world's smallest soap company, Saratoga Suds will continue to make pure face and body soaps for you in the time honored, authentic, old fashioned way.

Good Clean Fun! Saratoga Suds soaps are mild and long lasting. Ounce for ounce, they will outlast a commercial soaps, including 'melt and pour' soaps. And, you'll be pleasantly surprised to find that you probably won't need to slather yourself in lotion after each shower – think of the time and money you'll save!

Enjoy! I have developed over 25 recipes, and I will continue to create new and comfortable soaps. Making soap from scratch is hard, messy work – but I love doing it! Being able to make a product that brings comfort and happiness to others brings me joy and keeps me mixing and measuring! Enjoy!
